Arcola Energy
Trailblazing sustainability projects as part of its core business, Arcola Theatre aims be the world’s first carbon neutral theatre. To this end, Arcola established Arcola Energy in 2007 – promoting innovation in sustainability, through the Arts.
This progression into the sphere of sustainability lends the theatre its unique structure of governance and delivery, based upon the following business model:

Arcola Energy is as innovative and dynamic as the theatre itself, an off-shoot of the theatre whose roots have now spread into the wider arts world, into environmental innovation and the local community.
Arcola is already well on its way to becoming a sustainable enterprise. Arcola Energy has a full time member of staff dedicated to enhancing Arcola’s sustainability activities – environmentally and socially.
Green highlights in 2008 include the installation of Arcola’s fuel cell, which powers select main house shows and the LED lit foyer, giving the theatre a sixty percent reduction on comparable theatre lighting installations. Arcola has been appointed as the secretariat for the Mayor of London’s Green Theatre plan, which aims to deliver 60 per cent cuts in theatre carbon emissions by 2025.

Recognised as a global leader, Arcola Energy is driving environmental change locally, nationally and internationally through thought leadership, technology demonstration, brokering novel partnerships and bringing community voices in to Dalston regeneration. As a theatre we have a longstanding tradition of innovation, inspiration and deep integration with the local community. Working to the same principles, Arcola Energy will integrate arts and science professionals and the community to pioneer practices that will fundamentally change the way arts organisations work.
