London Sustainability Weeks

Love London is a project of the London 21 Sustainability Network who works in all parts of Greater London to help create a greener, healthier and more sustainable City. Now in its sixth year London Sustainability Weeks 2008 will provide an opportunity to discover and experience the diversity and creativity of local action and community projects that are working to make the city’s communities more sustainable.

Love London is London’s greenest annual festival, celebrating projects and organisations that are making a real contribution to creating a more sustainable capital. It will take place between the 1st and the 21st June.

During this festival, Arcola theatre will present one event:

Driving the Eco-cultural Frontier: A discussion about Arts and Sustainability.

Sustainability is a global issue and requires both a change of practices (across all sectors) and a change of mentality in the public domain. The Arts have historically been a driving force for change but thus far have been slow to address the issues involved in sustainability. What role could the arts play in facing one of the most important challenges of the 21st century? Does a synergy exist between theatre and the need to change people’s behaviour in the face of climate change? How can we combine the arts and sustainability?
A seminar with the leaders, engineers, designers, directors and producers of Arcola’s ground breaking eco-cultural projects including fuel cell installation, low energy theatre lighting and sustainable theatre productions.

6pm to 8pm: Seminar

8pm to 10pm: Eco-Entertainment: live music and eco bar.

DATE: 15th June
TIME: 6pm
ENTRY FEE: none
