Arcola Energy at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival

In November 2011, a multi-disciplinary team drawn from Arcola Theatre and Arcola Energy travelled to United Arab Emirates to deliver science and technology workshops as part of the Abu Dhabi Science Festival. The Arcola team delivered their new Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Competition in which children are invited to design, build and race hydrogen-powered model cars. Over the course of the 10 day festival, Arcola delivered 75 workshops to over 1,500 children. The children were bussed in from schools all across Abu Dhabi, giving them access to science and technology workshops from around the world. Read more in the Press Release.
Arcola Energy for Schools workshop – Climate Week Prize

In September 2011, a group of pupils from Pool Academy in Cornwall visited Arcola Energy for a workshop with one of our engineeers Matt Venn. The girls had won the workshop with their winning energy saving idea in the Climate Week 2011 Schools competition – the Fidgit which converts kinetic energy into electricity. Over the course of an afternoon, they were able to develop a prototype of their invention.
“It was a great day and we all had a brilliant time in London and at Arcola – thanks very much for the time you all gave us” – Teacher – Pool Academy

Physics at Work 2011
In September Arcola Energy provided 36 workshops for 800 pupils and 36 teachers on hydrogen and fuel cells as part of the Cambridge Physics at Work program at the Cavendish laboratory.
Physics at Work has been running for 27 years as a free exhibition to stimulate interest and encourage wider participation in physics amongst 14-16 year olds by showcasing the many and varied ways in which physics is used in the real everyday world.
Arcola Energy presented alongside workshops from companies such as Rolls-Royce and academics from Cambridge from the department of Astrophysics, Quantum Matter, Biological and Soft Systems, Semi Conductor Physics and the Fracture and Shock physics group to name a few.
The kids had a great time and the workshops were a great success with most of the schools already signed up to attend next year.

SATRO Science Festival 2011
In June 2011 Arcola Energy was invited to accompany BOC at the SATRO Science Festival in Surry alongside other companies such as LEGO, Glaxo Smith Klein, Balfour Beatty and academics from the University of Surrey, the Institute of Animal Health and the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Surrey SATRO has existed for over 20 years and held their annual festival for the past 14 years. They’re dedicated to bringing together education establishments and businesses
providing a vital link by facilitating relationships, developing and running programs with schools that enhance young peoples understanding of business, science and technology; and enthuse them about the opportunities and help them to realise their potential.
Students who attend SATRO have the opportunity to browse the job market before choosing their GCSEs, meet with companies and discuss what they look for and what they are up to.
During this event a member of Arcola Energy had the opportunity to explain hydrogen fuel cells to the Duke of Kent and show off our fuel cell powered train.
