Dalston - Arts Space of the Future: Creative Futures II
The second meeting has been held on Wednesday,
23rd July, 4pm.
'Topic' for this meeting was the Olympics.
Hadrian Garrard, the Culture Lead for the 5 Host Boroughs (for the Cultural Olympiad) has given an informal presentation on visions and emerging plans for a major cultural festival in East London (incl. the 5 host boroughs). The idea is that it will develop during the 4 year Cultural Olympiad and leave an internationally recognised annual festival as a legacy.

Arcola Theatre at Latitude Festival in Suffolk

Arcola Theatre has taken a brave new step in delivering
low energy lighting and hydrogen fuel cell power for this year’s Latitude
Festival. Working with regular partners White Light, Selecon, ETC and PixelRange,
Arcola Theatre provided lighting for the entire Theatre Arena using a mixture
of LED and low power tungsten technologies; cutting power consumption by
over 70%.
This ground-breaking advancement in technology has brought down the carbon
footprint of the festival and lessened the event’s impact on its immediate
surroundings and the world’s climate as a whole.

Arts & Sustainability Discussion (15th June
2008, 6pm)
The arts have historically been a driving force for change, but thus far
have been slow to address the issues involved in sustainability.
At Arcola Theatre we want to help lead the arts in taking real action and to demonstrate the ethical, financial and ecological benefits of those changes.

Dalston - Arts Space of the Future: Creative Futures I
How the arts may contribute to Dalston regeneration? (6th June, 2pm)

The nation is awash with hypothetical discussion about the future of the creative industries. Meanwhile, in Dalston, real decisions need to be made about what is required for the arts to truly benefit from regeneration and the Olympics.
The Mayor of Hackney is committed to making culture integral to the future of Hackney and a 5-Borough Festival of the Cultural Olympiad aims to bring art to all.
Arcola was hosting the Arts Council England / RIBA London competition Arts
Space of the Future and invited artists to put themselves on two new maps of
Dalston showing cultural assets and public spaces of the area. These maps will
be used in developing a new cultural strategy for Hackney and to launch cultural
Olympiad projects.
