Train for James May’s "Toy Stories"

In early 2011 Plum Pictures approached Arcola Energy to produce a hydrogen fuel cell powered model train for their Great Train Race as part of the first series of James May’s Toy Stories episodes. The system designed for this project went on to form the basis of the fuel cell developer kit which, in Summer 2012, went into it’s first run of production.

In 2014 (and on its 3rd iteration) the fuel cell developer kit attracted the attention of IBM Master Inventor Andy Stanford-Clark who used it for his hydrogen powered Raspberry Pi computer or ‘HyPi’ project. Andy’s additions and insight are guiding designs for the next iteration of the Developer Kit.
